20 Medical Questions by Gerard Bumanglag

An Interview with Myself

What course in the medical field are you taking up?

Medicine.

If you hadn't pushed through, what other potential studies were you considering?

I have no idea actually. At first, I thought medicine would be the coolest course to take, but somehow I realized this is total martyrdom if you do intend to excel at it. But I really don't see or feel the difference as we're all still subjects to ways of the world.

Who pays for your studies?

Me (from the funds my sites generate) and my parents.

How much time do you allocate within a single day for reviews?

The thing about me is that I'm a bit too numb to deadlines that I only get to feel the urgency at the very last moment, which leaves me under time pressure and with insufficient grades. Plus I'm very good at debating/rationalizing with myself even though the consequences are disasterous.

Can you share with us the highlights and drawbacks of your school's reputation.

My school has this dual personality just like the course itself. At times, you get so lucky while in other occasions you are like a lost dog treading some busy highway.

Where do you chill out after tedious exams, especially during weekends?

At home, to the solace of food and the internet. I used to drink a lot, but gulping down an intoxicating liquid just to makes you lose control over your own body that you end up putting yourself into risky situations. I've experieced quite a lot with drinking and it's a totally dangerous state of consciousness. So let this be a warning to everyone.

Are you faced with a lot of hardships currently regarding your endeavors?

Yes. When you realize what you're pursuing is just candy-coated for the most part. I mean that's gotta be a wake-up call that slaps you right in the face.

What was your most regrettable mistake ever committed?

This happens always. That's when I tend to trade the long-term goals and their advantages with those of momentary pleasures. Life is too short, and there were doctors out there who met an untimely death. So, I choose to enjoy life first and just regret when I'm old. Gives me something to do at that age.

What's your happiest moment being a medical student/professional?

Passing my subjects. Which makes me feel the more sad when I'm failing some, too.

What future specialties are you eyeing?

I'm more worried about what's going on in the now. The past is done and it's impossible to live through it all again. I already am preoccupied with a lot of things, why should I concern myself with something I can't go back to. The future is also unpredictable. You just gotta ride along and then see what happens. It just disappoints you when you end up not achieving your goal. So think negatively, so all outcomes won't be negative anymore.

Other than your studies, what are your hobbies?

That's a rather intimidating question. I think it would be more comprehensible if I tabulate them.

1. I own hundreds of rare CD/vinyl records that are dark in nature which is the result of a few years of hoarding. Some of them were sent by the bands themselves (because I do part-time interviews with local and foreign bands) or were ordered out from the net. Music is one of the major triggering aspects of my personality that makes me who I am. Without it, I'm a vegetable.

2. I run 6 online themed communities and deal with site issues on a regular basis. I do promotions online and offline.

3. I love programming, web graphic design, literature and other forms of art.

They are my current hobbies.

Have you ever cheated during examinations and in what manner?

I might eventually write a book called CHEATING FOR DUMMIES.

What would you say is the most distracting thought to conjure up when you're in the classroom?

When the class will be over so I could go back to the luxury of my room and my legendary status on the internet as the owner of 6 world-renowned themed communities with thousands of members who know me as the creator of the said sites.

Do you think becoming a doctor someday would be a worthwhile end point of your prior sacrifices?

Of course. It's a source of pride. Though the only people who rake in humongous amounts of cash are those that know how to strategize and monetize the profession business-wise.

Do you have many friends online and would you help promote this new site?

This is all dumb.

Do you plan on leaving your hometown to search for better job opportunities?

Not really. I love it here in the Philippines. I may visit other places abroad just to for the sake of experience.

Have you ever dared flunking your subjects?

Not exactly trying, it just happens. It's a very unpredictable matter.

Any issues/controversies you've noted in some aspects of your studies and profession?

Nope, and if I did know I wouldn't tell on this site due to issues of discretion.

Will you be an active member here or just nosing around, soon to leave?

My computer is on all the time. I pay a big amount for my electricity bills. So it's up to you to interpret that.

What significant changes do you want to see here in our online community?

It's good that this is the last question as I don't feel like talking to myself anymore.
